Pricing Recommendations
You have prepared all of your items for resale and you are now ready to price your items. Here are some suggestions in pricing your items:
- The first thing to remember is that this is a consignment sale, not a garage sale. You can price your items more than you would for a garage sale.
- If the item is new w/tags, price the item at 1/2 to 3/4 of the original price.
- For all other items price between 1/4 and 1/2 of the original purchase/retail price. Use good judgement and think to yourself, "would I buy this item for this price"? Remember "name brand" items are more popular and are good sellers. These items generally sell for a little more.
- If you are planning on selling some items at 1/2 off on day two of the sale, decide on the lowest price you would sell the item and double it. This way on the half-off day you are still getting what you want for the item. Just remember not to go too high, it's likely the majority of your items will sell at the regular price.
- Pay close attention to the condition of the item and how "dated" the item is. This will also help in your pricing decisions.
- Good Luck! If you have any questions please e-mail us.
Tagging your Items
Tagging your items is one of the most important steps in preparing your items for resale. You will need 3x5 white index cards with no lines, regular size safety pins, and a black pen or thin marker (fine point sharpies work best). Please do not use the small gold safety pins as they are difficult to remove. You can purchase all of these items at many discount, grocery, and drug stores. **Please be sure to use 3x5 cards only.
There are a few steps in preparing the tags for your items.

All clothing tags will be attached with a safety pin (remember not the tiny gold safety pins). The tags should be pinned onto the front, top, right corner of the item as you are looking at it (not as the person is wearing it, see picture below). If it is a shirt or dress, try to place the pin on the seam of the sleeve so as not to damage the item. For pants, shorts or skirts place the pin on the seam of the waistband.
After preparing your tags, you will be ready to attach them to your items.
Step 1: Using a black marker, in the middle of the card, print a short description of the item and the size. Ex. gymboree dress, size 2T. Place the size underneath the description so that it is easy to see.
Step 2: Using a black marker, in the upper right hand corner of the card, print your consignor #.
Step 3: Using a black marker, in the lower right hand corner of the card, print the price of the item.
Step 4: Using a black marker, in the lower left hand corner of the card, print a capital "D" if you want your unsold items donated or a capital "PU" if you want to pick-up your unsold items.
Step 5: Using a black marker, in the upper left hand corner of the card, print a 1/2 if you are wanting to sell your items at 1/2 price during the 1/2 price sale. New to our sale; if you want to sell your item at 75% off during the 75% off sale, please mark a star next to the 1/2 on your cards. If you only want to sell at 1/2 price (not 75% off) then do not add a star. If you do not want to sell your items at 1/2 price or 75% off then write "NO" in the corner. You can only choose "No", 1/2 off, or 1/2 & 75% off. You cannot sell at 75% off without selling at 1/2 off first.
All other tags will be attached with tape. You may use either scotch tape or clear packaging tape depending on the item. Attach the tag securely but not so much that it cannot not be removed when the item is sold. A good example of how to tape your tags to your items is to use two pieces of tape. One on the top of the tag and one on the bottom or one piece on either side of the tag. Do not tape all four sides!!! For items in baggies please tape the tag to the outside of the bag. Do not place the tag inside the bag. For toys, games, etc tape the tag directly onto the item. Remember that scotch tape is less likely to tear game boxes, video covers, etc.
